Henry Becomes a U.S. Citizen

Henry never talked about the process of becoming a citizen. I found his 1963 letter of congratulations from Nelson A. Rockefeller who was governor of New York at the time. Since I’m native-born in the U.S. I haven’t experienced the difficulties and delays of attaining citizenship. However I believe it is easier with a family member, and Henry had been married for three and a half years.

When I met him 39 years later, he always said he loved being a U.S. citizen for all the opportunities he had here that weren’t available in (communist) Poland. He was sure to fly the American flag every holiday.
