Poland or Ukraine?  Name this country:
Used to be part of Russia
The country suffers terrible destruction under the Nazis – most of the country’s Jews are murdered.

Allied victory after World War II leaves the country in the hands of communists.
Has no distinct geographic boundaries that help her defend against conquerors.
Became an independent country in 1918.
Won gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

In 2014 withdrew its bid to host the 2022 Olympics.

Has at least seven UNESCO World Heritage sites.

. . . . . . . .

If you said both countries you would be correct.
Poland won more gold medals in 2014, has 14 UNESCO World Heritage sites, and remained independent from 1918 until 1939. Ukraine only remained independent until 1921; millions of Russians died in the 1932-33 Soviet famine induced by forced collectivization. Most were Ukrainian.

Ukraine has one honor that Poland does not. They’ve shot down passenger airliners twice. In 2001, the Ukrainian military shot down a Siberian Airlines flight, killing all passengers and crew.
